First let us assure you that none of the information enter by you in the join form will ever be sold or shared with any third party. It is collected for the exclusive use by for-the-people.com.
It is necessary to complete the join form and receive confirmation of your membership before you can access the chat rooms. There are a few concise instructions at the beginning of the form, please read them carefully. Here is a sample of the form with a few additional comments for clarification.
If using JFW remember to turn the forms mode on. If using WinEyes remember to turn MSAA off. Hitting enter on the first edit box will accomplish this for both screen readers.
Your user ID is separate from your full name and nick name. It is the name
that will be associated with your password when you log onto the site, example:
Your legal name might be, John doe, and your user id might be, johnnyreb
with a password of civilwar then you might have a first nick of Johnie and
a second one of southern boy.
As you can see, there is no correlation between the user-id and any of the
nicks or your legal name.
Please be careful when selecting your password. Make it unique for security reasons, but be sure to save it in the event you forget it in the future. You will receive an e-mail with all of the information you entered, including your password. be sure to Save this e-mail so you can refer back to it if needed.
Remember to register with your verifiable ISP E-mail address. Hotmail and other web based E-mail addresses will not qualify you for membership. There are very few exceptions made regarding this policy.
When choosing your nick names, be sure to include spaces where applicable. These nick names will be shown in the locator frame and within the chat room. For example, your name may be Jane Doe, but you could use Janie, J. Doe, Ms. Doe, Jane in NJ or something whimsical such as, ButterFly. You must supply two nick names even if they are identical.
If you choose to enter data in The box labelled "Additional Details", and check the "Include my profile data in the members directory" check box, this information, along with your first nick name will be displayed in the Member Directory. If you prefer not to be listed in the directory, be sure to leave the "Include my profile data in the members directory" check box unchecked. You may want to enter contact info like your MSN and E-mail address, but we cannot assure you that this data will not be used by spammers. You might include hobbies and areas of interests, your country of residence, the times you are most likely to frequent the site, and similar details.
